Wave sequencing

Wave sequencing, from the Korg Wavestation, plays a programmed list of waves one after another as one evolving note — up to 255 steps, each with its duration, pitch, and crossfade.

Where a wavetable scan morphs between similar single cycles to change timbre, a wave sequence can jump between unrelated waves, sync its steps to a clock, and loop the route, yielding the Wavestation's signature rhythmic pads. The idea reads as wavetable thinking applied to time: the list of waves, not the stack of frames, is the instrument.
